LED Shop Lighting: Tailored to the Product Range

The goal in product presentation is always that an interested customer will buy a given product. In small shops, qualified personnel provide competent customer service to direct customer attention in a desired direction and awaken a buying interest. In large retail shops, it is different. Here, targeted product presentation will get customers’ attention by way of special packaging design or though-out product placements. Equally important is colour rendition quality: different packaging design and colour has a psychological influence on the customer, while near-to exact colour rendition is just as vital for unpackaged products as clothing.

Or imagine: In a car showroom, you decide on extravagant paintwork for your new vehicle, but after delivery, you find that there is a strong deviation in colour. A false rendition of colour is always linked to customer dissatisfaction. Optimize your shop light with LED light – contact us.

Important Requirements of the DIN EN 12464-1

The standards defined in the DIN EN 12464-1 are minimum requirements that lighting in the retail- or check-out areas must fulfil. To make use of light as an individual design element in your retail area, the minimum requirements are often not sufficient. The retail area must be outfitted with lighting of at least 300 lux. Targeted product presentation does not, however, warrant this, as the check-out area and a possible packing station require lighting of at least 500 lux.

Employees and Customers Benefit from LED Shop Lighting

Employees and customers equally benefit from optimal lighting. One aspect of this is the previously mentioned colour rendition, which plays an important role in the purchasing process. It is equally important, though, to feel comfortable in an artificially-lit environment. Often, the commonly used fluorescent tubes do not warrant this, due to their inevitable flickering.

Modern ballasts minimise this problem only slightly, since the flaring of fluorescent tubes can only be reduced to the extent that it can no longer be consciously picked up on. The eye’s subconscious perception, however, picks up on even the high-frequency flaring of store lighting. The effect on employees and customers is a common subliminal discomfort. The reduces customers’ length of stay in the store and increases fatigue in employees. A daylight-mimicking lighting system is the optimal solution, particularly in the shape of recessed LED luminaires that give off evenly-distributed, glare-free light. LED light strips with covers are equally homogenous.
